Some initials come in pairs — one with a strong puff of air (aspirated) and one without:

  • z, c, s (Flat): Tongue stays flat, tip near lower front teeth.
  • zh, ch, sh (Curled): Tongue tip curls upward toward the hard palate.

Finals follow the initial and carry the vowel sound.
